Caroline van Oosterom is an accomplished trial attorney who brings more than 20 years of experience, sound judgment, and a practical approach to helping clients navigate complex disputes. Her practice includes insurance fraud, insurance coverage, personal injury, premises liability, bad faith, products liability, and business litigation. She also represents entertainment insurers and artists on matters involving cast coverage, property loss, liability disputes, and copyright infringement. Caroline previously represented judicial officers in formal proceedings before the California Commission on Judicial Performance and has advised on ethics matters.
Caroline was a key member of the firm’s trial team in the House of Cards litigation, representing Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in a high-profile coverage dispute involving Media Rights Capital’s suspension and termination of Kevin Spacey from the Netflix series House of Cards. MRC sought coverage under a cast insurance policy for alleged production-delay expenses and later filed suit against Fireman’s Fund seeking $29 million. Following a five-week trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Fireman’s Fund, finding that the predominant cause of MRC’s loss was its business decision to distance itself from Mr. Spacey—not an alleged covered sickness. The result reflects Caroline’s experience handling high stakes matters with careful preparation, strategic focus, and a strong command of the facts.
Outside the office, Caroline enjoys spending time with her two children and traveling. She is active in the community through the National Charity League and serves on the Coronet Debutante Ball Board. A fun fact: she was her college’s mascot—Go Tigers!
