JAYMESON PEGUE, OF COUNSEL
A key member of the firm’s trial team in the House of Cards litigation, Jaymeson brings judgment seasoned over 35 years in practice, and strategic focus to litigation, insurance coverage, bad faith matters, expert witness consulting, and mediation. She is particularly skilled in resolving large-scale, multi-party disputes involving significant exposure, often entering complex matters at advanced stages of litigation to craft settlement strategies that reconcile the competing interests of carriers, plaintiffs, and insureds.
Representative successes include:
- Recovered $25 million for a client in a construction defect matter involving a large commercial property.
- Secured a significant settlement for an insurance company client in a severe injury case at approximately 10 percent of the plaintiff’s pre-mediation demand.
- Resolved a trade dress infringement matter through a substantial settlement within primary carrier limits while protecting the client from indemnity exposure.
- Obtained complete resolution of a defense and indemnity dispute involving defamation claims against an insured celebrity, with the insurance carrier client paying nothing.
A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jaymeson earned her J.D. from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in 1982, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, served on the Moot Court Executive Committee, and received the “Best Oralist” award in the Moot Court Competition. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, in Sociology from Arizona State University in 1976.
Jaymeson is frequently invited to write and speak on litigation, insurance coverage, and claims-handling issues. She contributed the chapter “Strategies for Defending Claims Against Insurer Clients” to Extracontractual Claims Against Insurers, published by Thomson Reuters, and recently authored the New Mexico chapter for “Reasonable Expectations,” published by the ABA. She has presented to leading legal and insurance industry organizations, including the National Association of Insurance Women, the American Conference Institute, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. Jaymesonis a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent-rated attorney, was recognized on the 2009–2017 Southern California Super Lawyers lists published by Thomson Reuters, and was named a 2009 “Top Women Litigator” by the Daily Journal.
She is a member of the California State Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before all California courts, the U.S. District Court, Central District and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Jaymeson is also a Certified Mediator, having completed the Mediator’s Certificate Training at the University of New Mexico.
